I ate some bugs, I ate some grass...

So it has been many moons since I updated this. Sorry. It's not like there is ever anything interesting here anyway. Here is the lowdown of my mental process last night as I studied for my dynamics test.

Okay, I’ve really got to do this, or else I will fail, like I almost did on my physics test the other day. Huh… I wonder if the grades have been updated online for that since I took that test Nope, not yet, but it at least it still shows that I’m still in a high percentile in the class. I wonder what my current percentage is against all the possible points that I could have so far… Eww… I wonder what would have to happen in the remainder of the semester for me to still get an A in the class… Eww… okay, how about a B… Okay, okay, I’ve really got to study for this dynamics test. Okay, First ting I have to do in a work-energy problem is define positions and a gravity datum. Okay, that pretty easy. Second, I need to set up my T1+V1+U1-2NC=T2+V2. That’s simple enough, but which ones can I get rid of right off the bat? Oh my crap, I've got the best story ever. I’ve got to tell Derek about this Okay, I need to study for this test… but I need a drink first Um… ice. Okay, now I am going to go study for this test. So the T’s are kinetic energy and the V’s are potential energy, that’s simple enough. Set both T’s to mv^2 /2 and hope that one of them isn’t moving at the time so you don’t have to deal with two unknown velocities. V’s are k (delta)^2 /2 + mgh where delta is the additional length in the spring. I’m kinda hungry now too. Let me see what I can find here… Hey, little nacho cheesy things. Hey, you know what I should do tonight? I should watch Nacho Libre. That is probably one of the best movies ever. “Chancho, when you are a man.. sometimes you wear stretchy pants in your room… it’s for fun.” No, no, I should really study for this test…

I took the dynamics test today. It wasn't that bad. Quite unlike my physics test.

I'm gonna find something interesting to do.

That is about it. I am going to try to spend a good portion of this week studying for the tests which are coming next week. Fun stuff.

This rarely gets implemented in the blog, but here is the week's Brain Candy- Ender's Shadow. I only started reading it on Sunday after conference, cause I was sick and really didn't have much to do, then I read it yesterday between classes. I am liking it so far. It is interesting the contrast between this and Ender's Game. Probably even more contrast to Bender's Game.

Ok, so it has been a day. That is about all I can say for what has happened. Everybody in my mechanics class was complaining about how hard the test was and about how they were crushed under the time limit (2 hours and 15 minutes) and so I am more worried about having done it wrong now. If everybody else is crapping chickens over it, I think I have reason to be worried.

In my dynamics class, my teacher just told us stories all day about how he made 8 satellites and accidentally blew them all up on the launch pad. It was awesome. Math was just a dumb presentation about rocks. I used the time that was presented to me to try to study a bit for the math test. It is useless. I am dead.

Here is the final revised analogy for mathematical proofs. It is like reading the Lord of the Rings books (all of them) after having watched the movies. You know what is going to happen in the end, but for some forsaken reason, you have to go through the arduous process of finding out all of the lewd details about how it happened anyway. Then you are often required to site all of those details, and sometimes explain how to get back as well. Poor....

I just bought 20 liters of soda.

• I saw this at BYU. It made me laugh. It is the only place in the world where you would have to make sure that everybody knows it isn't a spiritual plant.
• This also made me laugh quite a bit. I don't have an 360, but I can laugh all the same. I am saying that it is getting posted in honor of Iron Man coming out on Tuesday.
  

Is it better to be feared or respected? I say, is it too much to ask for both?

As I have explained to various others, today was filled with mixed emotions and lots of events. The job fair was today, and it was quite fun. To be honest, I was kinda nervous going in, but it was pretty easy, and I thought I did fairly well. I got to talk to the guys at Stark.. er... um.. Lockheed Martin, and I even got a little flash to usb drive with the Stark, no, Lockheed Martin logo on it. Hooray for swag.

I also had the opportunity to take a test today. I was unreasonably nervous for it. Well, who knows? I haven't gotten my grade back, since it was all handwritten. Usually the tests for my civil engineering classes take me about 2 hours to complete, but this one took me about 30 minutes. I know, it is unreal, so I took some time to look it over and make sure that I wasn't just fooling myself, and that I actually did it right. After about 10 minutes, I could see neither of the following: 1. anything wrong with my work and 2. any other way to do it. I guess we will see

Its Sunday afternoon, and I am procrastinating doing my homework due to an asinine assignment that I had yesterday. It was one math assignment, and it took me around 5 hours to complete. The most useful thing that anybody can take away from what I was working on is that the plural of "matrix" is not "matrixes." That is pretty much the most applicable thing to real life. Let me tell you some thoughts which have coursed through my head somewhat frequently in the last year or so...

"Hey, this is kinda interesting... maybe I should become a math major..."
"That's stupid, why would you do that?"
"I don't know. It is interesting and I am kinda good at it."
"But what about application?"
"Well, yeah, there's always that."
"I mean, math is great when you couple it with physics, but what is math alone? It's theory."
"Yeah..."
"So, what do you say?"
"... I guess I'm gonna stay in engineering..."
"That's right. Now go get me a taco."
"Wait, you're just my brain talking back to me. Why would I get you a taco?
"Just do it."
"Yes sir."

And that is how it goes.

Strain: Dimensionless

So here is the great story of the day. I have this professor {Dr. Christiansen [I call him Hank (but not to his face)]} who is a total pimp. He teaches all of my civil engineering classes. I had him at the end of last semester for Ce En 103, and now I have him for both Ce En 203 and 204. Anyway, one of the best parts of what he does is how he responds to stupid questions. Today, we were talking about stress and strain on materials. And this is about how the conversation went...

"So, as you can see, you divide your units, and since it is unit length per unit length, strain is dimensionless." -Hank

"Wait, Dr. C, so do you want us to write our strain in, like, inches per inches?" -Dumb student

"Uh... no... I just barely told you it was dimensionless...."

Most people aren't going to appreciate that for what it is, but a few of you out there will love the hilarity of that.

I came home with the full intention of doing my homework early and having a relaxing night, but I fell asleep for 3 hours. Now it is about 9:30, and I am still facing a butt-load of homework. Lewd.
