Guess Mine...

I am studying for a math test that I have tomorrow. I have pretty much lost all sanity. There is almost no use in studying anyway, seeing as how this will be a sheer test of IQ. It will just be a quantization of how well you can wrap your brain around an obscure question and answer it. I'm pretty screwed. So here is a list of my friends and which superheroes they would be and why
  • Dave- Gambit (because he gambles too much)
  • Derek- Ghost Rider (because of just how bitchin' he rides that scooter)
  • Stennett- Silver Surfer (because he's from a far off place with a whole surfing-thing going on)
  • Hillier- The Hulk (because of how he explodes with rage while playing basketball)
  • Forbes- Captain America (because he's dead)
  • Gabi- Green Lantern (because I don't know what the hell he actually does)
  • Harward- The Tick (because he's big, friendly, and when he's there, you KNOW he's there)
  • Andrew- Spider-man (no real explanation needed)
  • TJ- Human Torch (because he believes himself to be awesome)
Okay, back to math.

*Edit: Stennett complained, so now he's Batman.

The Maw

Finals week starts tomorrow, and this is how it is all going to go down for me.
  • Monday: Likely take the instrumentation final. Timed: 3 hr.
  • Tuesday: Scheduled electrical engineering final. Timed: 3 hr.
  • Wednesday: Scheduled machine design final. Timed: 3 hr.
  • Thursday: Only real chance to do the statistics final. No time limit.
  • Friday: Scheduled proofs final. Timed: 3 hr.
If any of you were with me last April, you might understand that I am ecstatic that 80% of my finals have 3 hour time limits (and it is bad form to pluralize units if they are abbreviated. You don't write "12 ins, 15 mis, etc.") since my differential equations final took me 6 hours to complete. I took it on a Friday, and I spoke with a kid before I took it who said that he just walked out after four hours without finishing. It was mind bottling that somebody would deliberately not finish a final, but after I took it, I understood.

I get to takes some notes into two of my finals, so I am working on those. I've never been more appreciative of 4-6 pt fonts before in my life. Too bad we can't take in microfiche with us.

Liver destruction continues with Dr. Pepper this evening.

I really appreciate the option on the facebook homepage that lets you hide stories that you don't want to hear about. Anybody who takes tons of quizzes or posts crap that I don't like gets hidden, and I never have to see or hear from them again. It is probably better than the defacing the sprees that I went on during the baseball playoffs. Removed a lot of 'friends' those few weeks...

I'm currently on a "Killers" kick. Although, they have more than one album, they might as well not. It all goes downhill after the first one. There are still a few good ones, but very few.

I just noticed that the authors of my instrumentation book are Figliola and Beasley. It is funny because I am currently working on a side-project that we call "Beesley." Also working on another called "Elf" and another that I am just going to call "Saga." Code naming things makes even the most boring of things seem interesting. Oh the things we do to keep ourselves occupied. Discreet Fourier Transforms are so awesome, aren't they?

Saturday is the ward Christmas party. (Just had to do a little HTML edit to fix my font) This will be the first ward activity that I have ever gone to. It should prove to be quite entertaining. Bowling at the WILK and then ice skating. I asked Dave if we could try and Iron Lotus while there. He said no. Good choice.

Mode = "What the Hell..."

It's when the value = "What the Hell..." occurs most frequently in a data set.

So, like what? Two months since an update? I am just taking a guess here, but that is what it feels like.

Here is the current scholastic standing.
  • Machine Design: Test this weekend. We were promised that it "was going to be hard, but do-able," which translated to "you're all screwed."
  • Instrumentation: Test all next week in the testing center. It is completely optional. Midterms are worth 20% of the total grade. This midterm is counted only if we do better on it than we did on the first one. It is pretty nice set up.
  • Electrical Engineering: Talking about logic. Makes no sense. Kinda ironic.
  • Proofs: Don't know what the hell is going on.
  • Statistics: The professor decided to assign a load of crap right before the end. It hasn't been way nasty... until now. Another test this weekend. Awesome.
  • Of course, there is also a final in every class.
I think I might have to teach in Elder's Quorum this week. I was told about a month and a half ago that I was going to be teaching the first lesson of every month, but nobody has said anything to me about my topic. I am betting that I get a call on Saturday night...

My phone is broken, and has been for about a week. Luckily I bought a warranty on it and I sent it in today to get it fixed. The replacement phone is Derek's old razor. I like having a flip phone. Like I told him, it makes you feel important. I don't like the non-qwerty keyboard on it. It takes me about a month to type texts.

I am thinking that I am going to steadily move over to my google number. It makes no difference to me as long as the other people aren't on T Mobile.

I should really be studying for one of my tests, but I'm not.

I will end this post with a picture. This is the latest instrumentation project. We had to make a device that measured thrust from a rocket. We made a cantilever beam and attached a few strain gauges to it, sent those strain gauges through a circuit that amplified, removed bias, and filtered out the natural frequency of the beam, and then sent it to a DAQ for registering everything. It was pretty sweet. I'm sure you really, really give a frak.

Craptacular

To start this magical post, I am going to give y'all a picture. It is entitled "Crappiest Day Ever." Let me tell you how the events all went down.
I was leaving to go home from school, and I dropped my laptop. The screen broke, which makes it pretty useless. I bought a TV to replace the screen.
Here is the pic.
So there you have it. Dumb stuff. I'm going to start on my homework now.

I've Got Soul but I'm Not a Soldier

So, I haven't posted in a bit. I'm sure that everybody and their dog is curious what I have been up to. Here's a hint: nothing.

School is about the same. My classes are hard as hell, but they are great. I mean, I chose this, and I love every day of it. Well, not test days.. or days with lots of homework. So, I love some days. Here is a rundown of what I am working on in each class right now:

372: Combined loading and finite element analysis
363: System analysis and Wheatstone bridges
301: Resistor stuff and Wheatstone bridges
290: Proofs
495: Probability

Overall, it isn't way, way nasty yet. I'm sure it will get worse. I have a test at the end of this week, and another at the end of next week. The Gauntlet begins.

On a lighter note, I went on a date tonight with codename: Monday. Why is she known as Monday? Well, it is just easier that way. It was great. We went to a restaurant and got some sort of cinnamon beef and deep fried cheesecake. It was fattening and delicious. With any detective work at all, you can probably figure out who Monday is. Anybody who knows can't share the secret. It is more fun that way.

Unity

Isaac and I just came up with units for some aspects of life that need quantization.

Trustworthiness: 1 Oț
Awesome Personality-ness: 1Ow
Attractiveness: 1 Sy
Insanity: 1 Ni
Irrationality: 1 Kr
Self-righteousness: 1 Ka
Fakeness: 1 Sk
Pimpliness: 1 Gr
Sexual Ambiguity: 1 Ty
Loudness: 1 Hw
Coolness: 1 Fz

There may have been more, but I can't recall. Also, the person for which these units were named have 1,000,000 of them as a standard. For example, Grant Harward had 1MHw, and as a comparison, Dave would have maybe 500 KHw.

New Slate - August 2009

It is officially August 31, 2009, which means that today I start school... again. Well, I never really left it to be entirely honest. I have only been on a 2.5 week break, which was glorious. This is the current line up for this semester (deemed "Semester from Hell" [aka "Lucifer's Delight"]):
  1. ME EN 372 Mechanical System Design Fundamentals
  2. ME EN 363 Elementary Instrumentation
  3. EC EN 301 Elements of Electrical Engineering
  4. MATH 290 Fundamentals of Mathematics (Hey, it is going to be harder than 'fundamentals' may indicate...)
  5. ME EN 495 Some Statistical Thing
I start off every semester with the attitude of "I'm not going to fall behind" and that lasts (at most) on week. I have the same attitude right now, and I'm aiming for two weeks this time...

Pioneer Children Sang as They Walked

I am about two hours away from an 4.5 day weekend. It's pioneer day (aka Mormon Christmas), and BYU is generous enough to give Friday off so that we might celebrate. In all honesty, I'm about one hour away from this glorious break from all things scholastic. I'm sitting in linear algebra (been here for 3 minutes) and I've already plotted an escape. I turned in my test (it was a take home) and listened to some kids complain a bit about how hard it was. I laughed. It was easy. I hate this class, but it is easy. Hooray for (previously taken) technical electives.

I just gave a presentation in my English class. The professor gave me a 50+/50. I'm going to be honest: I don't really know what that means. I am hoping for imaginary extra credit. I have never had extra credit in college before. I'm excited.
On the first day of this class, one thing was really clear: if the teacher likes you, you'll do well. The molester and I made sure that she knows who we are, and that she likes us. Don't get me wrong: the presentation rocked. I'm not demeaning its quality. I just think that the teacher liked the fact I spoke about Christian Bale.

If you go back to an older post, you'll see how I feel about eigenvalues. That is what we are talking about in lin alg today. Awesome...

In the spirit of my math homework taking me 15 minutes to complete, I have had a bit of free time on my hands as of late. Unfortunately, this free time usually comes while all my friends are at work. Here is what I do with it:
  • Burn Notice*
  • Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles**
  • Lost***
I am thinking of starting up the final season of Prison Break due to the (**) reasoning at the bottom.

I've also spent an ample amount of time taking apart old phones and seeing what I can make from their innards.

Derek took me to go get shave ice two days ago. It was... poor. Well, the ice itself was great. I just somehow picked the nastiest cocktail of horrendous flavors. I have come up with a plan of how I can avoid that situation next time I go. Here are the steps of the plan:
  1. Let Derek order first
  2. Order the exact same thing
  3. Eat it
For all you avid readers, I might be moving over to wordpress soon.

*We finished season 2 of Burn Notice in about 3 days
**Dave is a butt
***Recently started up again after hiatus

Staying Busy...

Here's what has happened over the last little while.
Last week I spent about 2 hours in my linear algebra class. There are 6 hours per week that I could spend in class. Monday and Wednesday I went for half of it and left. I didn't even go on Friday. I decided to go biking with Dave and Andrew instead....

We went up to Squaw Peak to bike down it. There is this nice little trail that starts up above Hope Campground that takes us down and lets us out where Orem Center Street intersects with University Avenue in Provo. It's really quite nice. You can just ride all the way home from the top of the trail. Said trail is pretty casual. It doesn't take a lot of effort and it isn't hard to avoid crashes. That having been said...

I crashed. Hard. One of the worst of my life on a bicycle. I'm not 100% sure what happened, but something sure did. I'm going to guess that I went about 5 feet forward and about 4 feet down (6.4 ish feet total travel). I landed on my right shoulder and elbow. There was a good amount of blood mixed with dirt. A shirt was ripped, and there were rocks in my shoulder. I had to dig out 6 little pieces of rock when I got home. The most painfully excruciating part was actually the hydrogen peroxide that made my entire arm above my elbow feel like it was being subjected to a chemical burn.

Friday night, Dave, Hillier and I all went to Cabela's. Hillier was going to buy a 20 gauge shotgun. We found a nasty wallet on the way. I picked it up. It was gross. It was on a freeway off-ramp. What do you expect?

While at Cabela's, Hiller was mocked by the salesman, who basically told him that "20 gauge shotguns were for little girls." Okay, it wasn't said exactly like that, but that is the impression he gave to us. Hillier said "Oh yeah, well I already have a 12 gauge and I'll use it to kill you and all of your family, so sell me the *&^%ing gun!" Okay, he didn't say it exactly like that, but that is the impression he gave. The first thing that the old man told us was that if we have a concealed carry permit, it was no good this late at night because the BCI was closed and Hillier would have to pay the $7.50 background check anyway. He decided against buying the shotgun that night.

We all went from Cabela's to Canfield's house. I had never been there before. It was a lot of fun. His mom is... interesting. She is unlike anybody I've ever met before, but she was fun. She stayed and talked with us for about 2 hours, but it was enjoyable. They are just all around good people. I like good people. While we were there, I got to drink some kind of blueberry juice. The only reason I picked that particular type of juice is because Hillier said "Man, if I had seen that I would have chosen that instead." So, I was like "Take that!" and chose that juice just to spite him. It wasn't that good. The more I think about it, the more I believe he just tricked me into choosing it. Here is a rundown of the people who were there that night:
I linked all of the names to their facebook pages. Why did I do this? Because I can.
It was fun. There is a fact about the Romania Bucharest Mission: we are the tightest mission to ever grace the face of God's green earth. I have never spoken with anybody who stays in touch with former mission buddies like we do.

While over at CL's house, Ty told me that Kris Johnston passed away just a few days ago. The funeral is actually right now, and I have to be sitting in my math class, not paying attention. The professor told us that he was going to be giving us the test today, so that is why I am here. Turns out that he lied. He is giving it to us on Wednesday instead. I'm kinda mad. I also forgot about it over the weekend until Ty asked if I was going this morning. I wish I had gone. Here is a bit of background on Sora Johnston:
She is the second from the bottom right. This is one of my favorite mission pictures because it has a lot of my favorite mission people in it. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot who are missing too...

On Saturday, Hillier and I went on a spiritual quest, which is always fun. We then decided to back to Cabela's for him to get that shotgun. We took Harward this time. On the way up, we helped Hillier plan his priesthood lesson. It was about what guys look for in girls. We had a pretty good list going. Hillier got the gun, and we went back to his house. We talked with Hillier's mom and dad for a few hours, which was fun. We shared a lot of mission stories that probably shouldn't be shared with a mom. She was cool with it though. One of my favorite things that his dad said was before we left to Cabela's. Background: Hillier's mom didn't really want him to buy a shotgun. Hillier's dad asked before we left "You guys headed up north?" and Mark replied "Yup," and we then left. Right as soon as we were out of the door, I asked Mark "Was that code for 'are you going to Cabela's" and Mark just replied "Yup." And I thought it was hilarious.

We then went down to Harward's apartment and hung out for a bit. Amber came. So did Derek. We all just talked for a long while, before going out separate ways. It may or may not have been simply a day of talking with friends in just a whole lot of different locations.

Sunday came. I was going to go watch Hillier teach that lesson to Relief Society in his ward. I decided it would be extremely awkward to be the only guy in there who wasn't teaching. I decided to take off and go to my parents ward for sacrament meeting. I then went home, and fell asleep for a bit. Dave and I watched Burn Notice, which just might be one of the best shows on television. There was a lot of nothing that was done today, but the day was still full. I got a lot of homework done starting around 21:00 and watched "Be Kind, Rewind" with Dave. It was kinda dumb.

There is your rundown of my weekend.

MgS

I just ate little tiny pancakes for breakfast!

I am up in Idaho for the Fourth of July. It has been pretty fun thus far. It is currently Sunday morning and we got here on Friday afternoon. Let's just say that the whole even has been jammed packed full of festivities. These events included things such as
  • Five Episodes of Lost
  • A pretty amazing pyrotechnic display
  • Little Tiny Pancakes
I was also just informed that it is Fast Sunday.. after we had already eaten. There are three really good ways to get out of eating food that I have learned across my life (only two if you're not a Mormon)
  • Allergies (You can only use this once you know what the food is)
  • Diabetes (A personal favorite for the last few weeks)
  • Fasting
If I remember correctly, Hillier is currently teaching a lesson to the Relief Society. I don't remember the exact topic, but I think it is something to the effect of "Guys want to marry a girl who is blazingly attractive." I committed him to use the exact phrase "blazingly attractive." I'll bet he doesn't.

Fun new whiskey purchase: Full Metal Jacket Skull Candies. I got mine for far cheaper than you find them here. Did I need new earphones? No. Did I want new earphones? Not necessarily. Were they really cheap? Yes.

Other fun new purchase: Burn Notice, Season 2. Why did I buy this? I was in a mood to spend money and waste time...

Russian is a nasty, nasty language. I know this because I've been awake since about 6:00, and had not much to do than study Russian. Just remember the following rules and you'll be fine: B=V, H=N, 3=Z, P=R, and there is a fish letter which shows up every now and then. I just ignore it and seem to be doing just fine.

Overall, it has been a great weekend. No complaints. Met some great people. Saw a great dance show last night. Overall, it has been pretty awesome.

New Slate

I know, I know, it has been a while since I have posted anything real. Here is the epic saga of my life for the last while (in no particular order):
  • I finished last semester. Thermo went well (A- in a 300 level course, I will take that any day of the week). C++ did not go so well....
  • I went paintballing with Derek, Dwillard, Hillier, Harward, Mike, and Mike's buddy Matt. It was glorious beyond comprehension. Here are some of the highlights: creative 4 letter combos, the GPS system, and the KFC lady seductively trying to sell us chicken.
  • Adventures of various sorts. :)
There really isn't anything else to talk about. Sorry for not being clever. If you really need something to enjoy, here is a video of a baby porcupine eating a banana.

Biography 1

From 8 Bits to Glory:
The Poo Poosington Story

Chapter One: From Humble Beginnings

After years of hoping for a child, Mr. and Mrs. Poosington were blessed with the birth of their son, Poo. Although the Poosingtons were nothing more than a family of wild yak herders, they were already crafting hopes and dreams for their young boy. They saved everything they could so that they might be able to send young Poo to school, that he might be able to escape his fate in the family business.

In school, Poo showed a great deal of potential. Clever as any young boy could be, he quickly rose to the top of his class, but this bored Poo. By his father's request, he spent hours every day studying and learning. And Poo hated this. When Poo was 12 he ran away from home, never to return...

Chapter Two: Running Away From Home, Never to Return...

At the age of 12, Poo left his home of Pooville. He didn't know where he was going; but he knew just that: He was going. He joined a group of sheep marauders, which he morally disagreed with, but he needed the money. After a few years living the life of crime, he decided he needed to move on, and find an honest job.

Chapter Thee: An Honest Job

After leaving the marauders, Poo set of to find a job that wouldn't one day end him in a Turkish prison cell. That is where he stumbled into a small shop of Eastern Artifacts. Although the shop owner's son was his only employee (which was plenty) he decided to give young Poo a chance. The shop owner, Mr. Kinezu, was getting old and figured it would be about time to think about retiring, and handing the shop over to his son. He thought that he might spend a good year, training young Kinezu to run the shop, and that would give him and Poo adequate time to get to know each other.

For more than a yeah, Kinezu and Poo worked together every day. They sold artifacts and they became friends. They developed hobbies together to pass the time. Their love grew for bowling, tennis, and baseball... but not so much boxing or golf. Every day during lunch, they went out behind the shop and played tennis or baseball, and every night they went bowling. It became their dreams to one day do these sports professionally.

As time went on, Mr Kinezu grew older, and decided it was time to give the shop to his son. He did this in December of 2006, and young Kinezu was grateful. However, he didn't know if he could run the shop all on his own. After a month of owning the shop, Kinezu and Poo were talking, and decided they would sell the shop, and use the money to pursue their dream...

Next time...

C++

I am sitting in my C++ class right now, and it is really dumb. He is basically just reading some powerpoints and making us watch him. Right now, he is showing us how to write decimals in binary. It is really awesome. Wait...wait... nope, no it isn't. We had to write a program in MATLAB this morning that took the number 1, and added .0001 to it until you got 2. I instead wrote it in C++ and here it is:

#include "stdafx.h"
#include
using namespace std;

int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[])
{
float x=0;
cout <<"start:";
cin >>x;

while (x != 2)
{
if (x <= 2)
{
x = (x + .0001);
cout << x;
cout <<"\n";
}
}
int num;
cin >> num;
return 0;
}
Derek was pseudo proud. I had to have him troubleshoot if for me because I threw in too many semicolons. It was out of control. When I ran it, it pretty much killed my battery. Yup, my computer is THAT awesome. I am pretty sure that the battery percent was dropping so fast that it was skipping full integers on its way down.

Since last semster ended, I got my grades from it. Here is how they are: mediocre.

This class is brutal. I get to sit in here for two hours, three times a week. It is pretty craptacular.

log(xB)

If you get it, then you win 50 extra points which can be applied to a variety of flavored beverages.

The purpose of this post is the same as it was this time last semester: to get my notes for my math test tomorrow down somewhere, just to help me remember it. This will be the format for the notes

Section number- what knowledge can be acquired by learning the section

How to do it, in Brian terms.

Here is the breakdown by sections:

7.1 Transforming a second order differential into a system of first order differential equations

Set x1 to u, aşa că u'= x'1

Then set x2 also to u', and then u''=x'2

Get the original equation in terms of x1 equal to x'2

7.2 Verify that a given vector satisfies a given equation

Learn basic linear algebra

7.3 Determining linear relationships between vectors

Give all vectors a constant in an equation similar to

C1x1+C2x2+C3x3=0

Write as an augmented matrix

Solve and pray they are all different constants

Part II Finding eigenvalues and eigenvectors

...Find the eigenvalues.

...Find the eigenvectors

7.4 Finding the Wronskian of a given vector, finding the interval of linear independence, find a system of equations that verify linear independence

You're given x1 and x2 vectors

Find W, and where it is zero, those values don't exist. That means that the interval of linear independence is everywhere that those values aren't.

The system of equations that verify linear independence is found by simply finding a vector that satisfies x'=Px

7.5 Find the general solution of a given system with different, real eigenvalues

Find the eigenvalues(these will be known as r1 and r2), then the eigenvectors (represented by ξ1 and ξ2)

Your solution is of the form x=c1ξ1er1t + c2ξ2er2t

...Yeah, it is taking too long to do the html code on this, and I won't do it otherwise... so I won't do it any more.

Professional Whistling

I am sitting in my manufacturing class, which I hate. My teacher is pretty incompetent. We are just watching movies today about MEMS. It is pretty dumb. I can do this on my own, and I don't have to get up at 7 to do as such. It seems as though most of the class is of the same opinion. From where I am sitting, I can see 14 laptops out, and I will bet there are at least 8 to 10 more that I can't see. Everybody on my row has one out, and not one of us are paying attention.

This week, I have no tests. I do, however have a lot of foot-work to do on my 282 engine. I am hoping that I can get the frames done today so that we can run a test assembly. Also, I have spent around 20 hours since last Thursday in the CAD lab. Final pictures to come soon.

Well, I had better get back to work, but first, here is some deliciousness:

Last week was really long, and the weekend wasn't long enough. I had the intention of getting a lot of homework done and to study for some upcoming tests, but I did neither. I will instead spend this week having no fun at all. I have banned myself from facebook for a week. I don't know if I will succeed at holding to that, but I will try. Physics Test 3

We will see how well this works. My bet is "not very."
The plan is to update this every hour or so to see how long I am up. I will give you the rundown of the previous hour's events. This might be interesting.

2:42-
Went to go get some highlighters so I can distinguish when voltage is emf or just potential. Working on physics. Awesome2 Also had to open the html edit of an old post because I can never remember the command to make an exponent.
3:30-
I have learned that despite the fact that it has been well publicized in my PHSCS 220 class that there will be a lot of "Which light bulb will be brighter?" questions on the test, there is virtually no information about them in the book.
4:44-
Decided to try to eat something. Nothing has really stayed down for over a day now. I chose to eat combos, and promptly offered Dwill some over Facebook. I am working on RC circuits as of right now, and I have officially forsaken the night's sleep. At this point I would be more tired when I get up than if I just stay awake.
5:15-
This is the last update of this post because, well, frankly I have grown tired of this. I'm tired.

There are >12 Cylon Models.

So, it is Sunday afternoon and I need to start studying physics and math. Why? Because I have a few tests this week. It seems as though all my classes like to correlate when they give us tests.

Dave got a Mr. Jass television. It is quite nice to sit down and watch Dahl's sequel to the BFG. Speaking of which (Derek, cease reading here unless you've seen it), Daniel (#7) could be one of the following people:

I will go as far to guarantee he is one of those.

Yesterday was Valentines Day. I watched Jurassic Park. Not usually what people think to watch on Valentines.

In the hunt for pictures or things to post. I found this from the mission. Owens had some mittens that got a make over. This is what they looked like after Nina got a hold of them.

Here's to the Night.

It is Monday night, which means that I am frantically trying to get my physics homework done so that I can submit it by midnight. See? Can you tell how frantic I am? Right now we are working on resistivity, which is actually pretty interesting. It reminds me of this XKCD
Here is something that bothers me: when a question is labeled (for example) "Number 12," but then it has 12a, 12b, 12c and so on in that fashion. It makes it so when you look at your homework, you say "Hey, I only have 5 problems for my homework. That's pretty nice." and later find out you actually have 27, well, it just ruins your whole day.

Derek, check your spelling on your blog posts. Especially in the title. The red, squiggly underline doesn't mean "cool word."

9.81 m/s2

Record time today for a math test. 1.76 hours. Now, if you can't sleep very well at night, you should know that 76% of an hour is 45 minutes and 36 seconds. This was exceptionally quick considering that most of them took upwards 3 hours last semester.

I have another test on Thursday. It is in my manufacturing class. It will be either A) unreasonably easy, or B) viciously hard. I'll keep you all posted so that you know. I am going to study for it today so that tomorrow I can spend the majority of the day in the CAD lab. Fun stuff.

Last Friday we went out to a huge hole in the middle of nowhere. We proceeded to hurl flaming pieces of garbage down the shaft. The sad part of the whole thing was the fact that I was generally more interested in timing the fall and calculating the depth of the shaft than just tossing stuff down.

Saturday consisted of going to Hillier's sister's wedding. I drank some sort of green drink in aspiration of being a billionaire super-hero one day.

Fact: Billionaire super-heroes drink green beverages.
Proof:
I'm going to get back to homework now.

Racism isn't funny.

I was thoroughly impressed by Joseph Lowery's inaugural prayer and thought that everybody would like to know what the original text of the prayer was. If you didn't see it, you can see it here.

"We ask you to help us work for that day
When black will not be asked to give back,
Where brown can stick around,
When yellow will be mellow,
When the red man can get ahead, man-
And when white will embrace what is right.
When there is a wocket in my pocket,
When there is a noothbrush on my toothbrush,
When there is not one fish, but two fish,
Which are both red fish and blue fish,
I do not like green eggs and ham,
I do not like them Sam I am.
Let all of those who will do justice and love mercy say 'Amen'. AMEN!"

2.6 Exact Differential Equations

I am sitting in math right now, and I am not really paying any attention. Hence the post.

I just spent about 2 hours in the CAD lab working on, get this, sketches. No, not by hand, but getting the computer to do the sketches for me based off the models that I designed. So, we are taking a 3D model, and degrading it to 2D. Way fun. The most important reason for using the 2D model is because Cylon technology can't hack a 2D model and shut it down so they can destroy you.. like they can with the 3D model.

Today is the Presidential Inauguration of Obama. Yesterday was Martin Luther King Jr. day. In about a week and a half we will be in Black History Month. Stennett and I will continue to eat pancakes to celebrate.

I just realized that I accidentally did the assignment already for what the professor is teaching today. What a waste of a weekend.

Oh, and I quit my job yesterday. Tonight is my last night there. Now I will be poor again.

The Cylons Were Created by Man

For it is a holiday weekend, which means the following things.
  1. I will work everyday
  2. I will tell myself that I am going to try to catch up on homework and studying, but won't
  3. Sunday midnight basketball.
Number 3 is rationalized by the fact that it isn't technically the sabbath anymore. It has been a traditions almost every time there has been a Monday holiday.

I really don't have that much to say.

∫∫∫ 1 dzdrdθ of NaCl

I am currently sitting in the library (booktorium) and should by all means, be finishing my math. I am, however, not doing as such. I was up pretty late last night, and got up early this morning. I fell asleep in my first class of the day (Manufacturing Science) and we will see how the rest of the day goes. I am betting that unless I pull out my laptop in every class, I fall asleep in each one. I made some pretty cool stuff in the CAD lab though. Not that any of you really care.

I downloaded a program called "LyX" last night while I was at work. If any body does a lot of math on their computer, I highly recommend it.

Okay, well, I am planning on going to the devotional in about 30 minutes, and it will be pretty blatant if I am hacking out my differential equations while Elder Holland counsels us to remember Lot's wife.

Ciao.

Mittens ≥ Gloves

This just happened. It was really funny as it was happening, then subsequently less funny as time goes on. Dave knows how to graph the level of funniness as a function of time (Hint: it has a negative slope)

"Do you guys sell, like, mittens?" -Dumb Girl

"Yeah, they're right there, you were just standing next to them." -Me

"Oh, no, these are like gloves"

"Except for those mittens right there on the end... those are like mittens"

"No, I mean like mittens"

"By definition, those are mittens"

"No, I mean like, wool ones"

"Oh, then no, we don't sell mittens"

I then laughed after she left, and told Dave about it.

The Lion King: To Be Successful, Sometimes People Got to Die

This entry is dedicated to the ever diligent D-Mac. He has been bugging me to update my blog for eons, and now I finally am. Hooray to all of my diligent readers. All two of you.
So, nothing really too eventful has happened over the past weeks. I got a B- out of my math class. I initially thought that I was going to have to retake it, but no; I get to move on. What more, I can still minor in math. I have one more beastly math class, then I have two which shouldn’t be too bad. They might even be kinda fun.

Oh, Forbes got married yesterday. Congrats buddy. I got to go to the ceremony and the luncheon. It was actually really fun. The night before we went, Hillier, Stennett and I all played pass the pigs and watched Pastor Melissa Scott. It was great. We have also set up a Super Nintendo and played Super Mario World. Again, great.

I bought another Nixon. David is a bad influence. So is Whiskey Militia. Speaking of which, I need to find my Δ because there is a fancy little place here in the mall that offers unlimited batteries for 5 years. This is beneficial for the following reasons: 1. The Δ batteries are about $20 a pop, and 2. They need to be Δed about once a year.
